We are proud to introduce that the BIO Legacy Foundation is now the Bird Island – Olivia Community Foundation!
The BIO Legacy Foundation was created in 2012. Today, the goals of the Bird Island – Olivia Community Foundation remain the same. Our aim is to enhance our rural lifestyle in the Bird Island and Olivia area by supporting ideas and projects that strengthen our communities.
Strengthening Bird Island & Olivia in Four Pillar Areas
Education
Successful grants have been awarded for classroom seating, books, and other equipment or cirricululm for learning, and more.
Recreation
Successful grants have been awarded for a variety of sports programs, camping gear, racing event needs, and more.
Health
Successful grants have been awarded for aromatherapy program, fitness related items, weekend meals for kids, and more.
Amenities
Successful grants have been awarded for a Splash Pad feature, dock for Olivia Pond, facility updates, and more.
In the first ten years, our Foundation has given $80,850.73 back to the Bird Island and Olivia communities!

Grant Deadlines are Every April 1 & October 1
Our grant cycles are held twice per year with deadlines on April 1 and October 1, and award decisions made and presented the following month. All proposals mustbe submitted by a 501(c)(3) organization, a unit of government or by a public agency. Our Foundation Connects Donors with Local Causes
The Bird Island-Olivia Community Foundation builds funds to provide grants that strengthen the Bird Island and Olivia within four pillar areas: Education, Recreation, Health and Amenities. The Foundation is a vehicle for donors who wish to make contributions for the benefit of our communities.

“I was awarded a grant five years ago to purchase a classroom set of ukuleles. Every year since then, the 3rd grade class at St. Mary’s have learned how to play the ukulele. It has provided the students such a great opportunity to learn a new instrument. I never would’ve been able to provide my students with this experience if it wasn’t for the money I was awarded through the Bird Island – Olivia Community Foundation.”
